Leak Repairs

Sydney Water estimates that one in seven homes has a water leak. A small leak can quickly become bigger if not dealt with, causing untold damage to your house, sometimes before you even realise it’s happening.

To prevent and detect leaks, it’s vital you pay attention to the areas of your property that are connected to water and could contain leaks. A little bit of awareness by you can identify any problems quickly. Signs you should look for include:

• Monitor your water meter.  Read your meter regularly and keep a record. This will help you see dramatic increases in your water usage and alert you that you could have an unseen leak.
• Check under sinks for water leaks. Often dampness under basins is an indication water is escaping.
• Check around hose connections on appliances such as dishwashers and washing machines.
• Be alert for damp patches or mould on walls – this can indicate a leaking pipe behind it.
• Check toilets and taps in the house for signs and sounds of leaks.
• Check around toilet cisterns for water. Your toilet shouldn’t be releasing any water externally.
• Disconnect outdoor hoses and irrigation pipes. Then make sure taps aren’t leaking. 
• Different patches of green on lawns can be an indication of a leaking underground pipe.

A leak in your house needs to be dealt with by experts. 

You may attempt to fix something obvious yourself, however, it may not solve the underlying problem.  You could even make the problem worse and in the long run, make it more expensive to repair.
